Sandra J. Caulkins, age 73, entered eternal rest on February 28, 2016, following a brave battle with cancer. She was born on June 6, 1942 in Floresville, Texas, graduated from Boerne High School and Texas Lutheran University with a degree in Education.
After teaching for a couple of years, Sandra was a homemaker and devoted mother to two sons, Mark and Alan Lester, and their many friends, some of whome also called her "Mom".
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Theodore and Esther (Pfiel) Winter; her sister, Florence Kramer; and her son, Mark Jonathan Lester.
She is survived by her loving husband of 13 years, Stanley H. Caulkins. She is remembered with love by her son, Alan (Erin) Lester, as well as two step-daughters, Chelsea (Carl) Anderson and Crysta (Jeff) Clouse. She was proud to be called Grandma by three grandsons, three-year-old twins Benjamin and Landon Lester and two-year-old Toby Clouse. She had a special bond with niece, Kristin (Stan) Dalley and nephew, Jay (Allison) Kramer. She will be missed by great nieces and nephews, Kailyn Alvarado, Kyle and Kendra Dalley and Kaden and Sienna Kramer, as well as numerous cousins, and other family members and friends.
Sandra loved her family and treasured time she spent with each of them. She had may interests including Toastmasters Club of Austin. Loving to dance, she and Stan were wonderful dance partners. Sandra liked to cook, review new recipes, and research holistic living. Sandra and Stan shared many adventurous road trips throughout Central Texas and traveled the United States from coast to coast.
Visitation will be held at Legends Tri-County Funeral Home, 101-B Centerpoint Rd., San Marcos, Texas from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Friday, March 4, 2016. Funeral services will be conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church in Poth, Texas at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 5, 2016. Sandra will be laid to rest at the Floresville City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, to Texas Lutheran University Foundation, or to St. John's Lutheran Church in Poth, Texas.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at the Dabas Cancer Clinic and to the numerous hospital staff members and friends who diligently cared for Sandra throughout her illness.
